The Rock Of Cashel, is only one of the many attractions Cashel has to offer. Others include the Bolton Library, a collection of over 12,000 volumes, Dominics Abbey which lies to the south east of The Rock and was founded in 1243, as well as Bru Boru, a beautifully designed folk theatre incorporating a restaurant and craft centre located at the foot of The Rock Of Cashel.
Holycross Abbey (R660), within 15 minutes of Cashel, was founded in 1168 and is still used today as a Catholic Church. Also within 15 minutes of Cashel is the village of Golden (N74), built across the River Suir, it is noted for its Trout and Salmon fishing. If you travel out the R668 from Cashel, you'll find Rosegreen, home to Hot Rod car racing and Rally Karting.
Cahir Castle (N8) built in the 15th century is within 30 minutes of Cashel. Also in Cahir is the Swiss Cottage, built in 1812 and designed by John Nash in an ornate style as a hunting and fishing lodge. Cahir also offers an 18 hole golf course as well as horse riding and pony trekking at the Lissava Horse Stables and Cahir Equestrian Centre.
There's another 18 hole golf course at Turtulla in Thurles (R660), also within 30 minutes of Cashel. Thurles also boasts horse racing and greyhound racing. Tipperary Town (N24) is an old market town which still retains the charm and character of earlier times. Here you'll find the Bridewell Jail which is supposed to have housed Ned Kelly's father before he was deported to Australia. It now houses the Heritage Centre and also the Family History Research Centre.
